Pond Filtration
Probably the most important aspect of any pond project is the filtration system, not only is it responsible for achieving water clarity but also the production of biologically acceptable water conditions, in which fish and other occupants of the pond may successfully live. The selection of the correct type and size of filter for each individual pond is of paramount importance, and the factors which influence the choice such as surface area, depth, amount of sunlight etc. are many and diverse. The best way through this potential minefield is to come and discuss your individual requirements with our experienced staff. We stock a variety of filters from the following manufacturers:-
The In-Pond Filter System
These systems incorporates a filter with ultra violet light and pump encased together in a compact unit which is submersed within the pond. Requiring just one electrical connection this is possibly the easiest filter system to install and can run both fountains and small waterfalls.

The Pressurised Filter System
This filter and ultra violet light combination is essentially a sealed canister which is positioned outside of the pond, and fed with water via a flexible hose from a suitably sized submersible pond pump. The sealed nature of the filter ensures that the filter cannot overflow and allows the outlet hose to run to a higher level than the inlet, this allows discreet positioning of the filter with the outlet feeding a waterfall or suitable pond return. Many of these filters now incorporate an easy cleaning facility, which allows the dirty filter water to be pumped via a hose to a suitable place of disposal.
The Gravity Filter System
This is normally a “black box” type filter which may also include an ultra violet light clarifier. The filter is fed with water via a suitably sized hose from a submersible pond pump, the system requires the outlet from the filter to be positioned higher than the pond water level or waterfall allowing the pond water to flow via gravity back into the pond. These filters whose designs have improved dramatically over recent years, now incorporate filter screens, drains and easy cleaning facilities allowing much larger ponds to be successfully filtered.
