Pumps
Fountain and Waterfall Pumps
These submersible (in pond) pumps are normally supplied with an extending T- piece, which allows various fountainheads to be fitted to the vertical section, and hose of various diameters to be fitted to the stepped side branch. Valves allow the water flow to be balanced between the fountainhead and the side branch, from which the hose may be run through the appropriate filter/U.V. and returned via a waterfall or pond side ornament. These pumps generally have fine strainers or foams fitted to prevent the fountainhead from becoming blocked with pond debris. Extra pre-filters may be fitted which raise the pump above the bottom of the pond reducing the sediment intake to the pump.

Filter and Waterfall Pumps
These are submersible pumps fitted with strainers, which allow large diameter debris to pass through the pump, reducing the problem of pressure loss due to clogging of the strainer. These pumps are generally supplied with large bore outlets to prevent pressure loss and large bore hose should always be used. The majority of these pumps are fitted with low wattage energy efficient motors and must not be confused with the much cheaper but much more expensive to run sump type pumps. Some of these pumps may be fitted with a secondary satellite inlet or surface skimmer, which can be sited away from the main pump and is especially useful in larger ponds.

Feature Pumps
These are small compact submersible pumps used in water features, pebble ponds or fountain ornaments. Due to their compact nature they must be sized correctly to ensure the pump has an adequate lift capacity for the job in hand. The maximum capacity of the pump is the flow of water unrestricted from its outlet, when a hose is attached and held vertically this capacity is reduced, so chose carefully.

We appreciate that it may be confusing to some people to select the appropriate pump for their particular job and would always recommend those requiring assistance to pop in and discuss their requirements on a personal basis, please bring as much relevant information as possible i.e. size of pond, waterfall height, width and length, fountain height and diameter, filter type etc.
